Methyl isobutyl ketone is a stable, colorless liquid having pleasant odor with the formula (CH3)2CHCH2C(O)CH3. It is slightly soluble in water and miscible with most organic solvents.

Due to low solubility in water, it is useful for liquid-liquid extraction. It can be used to extract gold, silver and other precious metals from cyanide solutions.

Methyl isobutyl ketone is also used as a denaturing agent for denatured alcohol. It is both a medium-boiling and a medium-evaporating solvent. This is used as a solvent for gums, resins and varnishes.

Isobutanol also known as 2-Methylpropan-1-ol is an organic compound with the formula  (CH3)2CHCH2OH. It is colorless, flammable liquid with a characteristic smell is mainly used as a solvent. 

It is used in the production of lacquer and coatings, and in the food industry as a flavoring agent. It is very suitable for acid-curable lacquers and baking finishes. It can also be used as a derivate in the manufacturing of plastics and rubber mixtures. 

Application:

tert-butanol also called tert-Butyl alcohol  is a simplest tertiary alcohol, with a formula of (CH3)3COH. tert-Butyl alcohol is a volatile, colorless liquid which forms rhombic crystals when frozen. It has a camphor-like odor.

It is miscible in esters and aromatic and aliphatic hydrocarbons, and soluble in water. tert-Butyl alcohol is highly flammable.

tert-Butyl alcohol is used as a solvent, paint remover ingredient and oxygenate. It is a chemical intermediate used to produce methyl tert-butyl ether and ethyl tert-butyl ether.
