Antifoam Defoamer AF20

SKU: RXSOL-81-2066-200

RXSOL Antifoam Defoamer AF20 is a concentrated, silicone-free antifoaming agent formulated using a synergistic combination of proprietory alcohols.

The formulation is designed to provide both rapid foam knockdown and sustained foam suppression. Antifoam Defoamer AF20 provides rapid destabilization of foam lamellae, while also contributing to persistent foam control and improved antifoam activity.

RXSOL Antifoam has demonstrated rapid foam-collapse performance in laboratory antifoam testing, including foam collapse within minutes and resistance to re-foaming under agitation/sparging conditions.

Industrial Area

What causes foam in aqueous systems like desalination plants?

Foam formation in seawater is typically caused by naturally occurring surfactants generated from:
  • Algae and plankton
  • Organic decomposition products
  • Hydrocarbon contamination
  • Biological activity
  • Turbulent mixing and aeration

Quick foam knockdown plus extended foam prevention properties in RXSOL Antifoam AF10

Parameter Performance
Foam Knockdown Speed Excellent
Foam Suppression Duration Excellent
Seawater Compatibility Excellent
Non-Silicone Performance Excellent
Residue Formation Very Low
Membrane Compatibility Good
Continuous Dosing Suitability Excellent

How to effective knockdown foaming in waste water systems, produced water systems in oil and gas:
A. Direct Addition

Add the required quantity directly into the process tank.

Recommended for:
  • Batch processes
  • Cleaning tanks
  • Wastewater tanks
  • Reaction vessels
  • Mixing vessels

Allow sufficient circulation/agitation for uniform distribution.

B. Metering Pump

For continuous foam control, RXSOL Organic Antifoam can be injected using a metering pump.

Typical starting point:

10-100 ppm continuously

The dosage should be adjusted according to foam generation.

C. Shock Dosing

For an already established foam layer:
  • Stop or reduce the foam-generating operation if possible.
  • Apply a small quantity of antifoam directly onto the foam.
  • Allow approximately 1–5 minutes for foam collapse.
  • Restart circulation/aeration.
  • Establish a lower continuous maintenance dose if required.

Precautions & Remarks

Mode of Action of FOAM KNOCKDOWN

Foam Film Destabilization

The hydrophobic alcohol components migrate toward the air-liquid interface and interfere with the surfactant film surrounding the foam bubble.

Reduction of Foam Film Stability

The antifoam disturbs the elastic surfactant layer, promoting thinning and rupture of the bubble wall.

Rapid Bubble Collapse

Antifoam AF20 provides rapid foam-breaking activity. Published testing has demonstrated rapid collapse of foam following addition of Antifoam AF20 .

Persistent Foam Suppression

Antifoam AF 20 with its longer hydrocarbon chain, contributes to a more persistent hydrophobic phase that can remain active during continued agitation.

Re-Foaming Control

The combination is intended to reduce the tendency of foam to regenerate after agitation, pumping, aeration or circulation.

Procedure

The required dosage depends strongly on the type and concentration of foaming agents, process temperature, agitation and contamination level.

Initial recommended dosage

10-100 ppm
for routine foam prevention.

Moderate foam

50-250 ppm

Severe / persistent foam

100-500 ppm

Shock treatment

250-1,000 ppm

For exceptionally severe foam conditions, higher concentrations may be required during initial treatment, followed by a lower maintenance dose.

Recommended practice: Start at the lowest effective dosage and increase progressively.
